FYI, in case you missed the announcement in Today at UCAR...
Information Sessions on Upcoming Supercomputing Changes - January 15
CISL Operations and Services Director Tom Bettge and staff will
present information on plans for the installation and transition to
Phase 2 of the Integrated Computing Environment for Scientific
Simulation (ICESS) supercomputing system this spring and
summer. Blueice will be replaced by a 100-node IBM POWER 6 platform,
"bluefire."
Two identical sessions are planned, one at the Mesa Lab and one at
Foothills, on Tuesday, January 15, 2008:
- 10:00 to 11:30 AM, FL2-1001 (small seminar room with 70 seats)
- 1:00 to 2:30 PM, Main Seminar Room at Mesa Lab
An overview of the hardware and expected capacity increases will be
given, along with installation schedules. Differences from the Power 5
systems will be described, including a changed security model,
allocations and charging, and early use by special projects. A rapid
transition from blueice to bluefire is expected, and strategies for
minimizing disruption during the transition will be discussed. The
decommissioning schedules for bluevista, blueice, and lightning will
also be discussed.
