2005 User Forum

SCD is offering a user forum on May 17-18, 2005 at the NCAR Mesa Lab in
Boulder, Colorado. Registration is free to NCAR users and university users,
and the deadline is May 9. University and NCAR users as well as SCD and 
IMAGe
staff will give more than 30 presentations, and a half-day training 
session on
ESMF will be provided. For details and registration, please see

SCD Computing Center Downtime, May 19-22

SCD is in the last phase of a significant upgrade to the Mesa Lab computer
room cooling system needed to accommodate additional computers or
upgrades. To complete this work, SCD has scheduled a downtime, May 
19-22. This
downtime will affect all supercomputers, the Mass Storage System, and some
other SCD computers. More details will be published in early May. Please

New Procedure for Obtaining SCD Support

SCD is phasing in a three-tier help desk service, which will be broadly
distributed throughout SCD.

When you call the existing Consulting Services phone (303) 497-1278, you
may be greeted by an SCD Computer Operator rather than a consultant. The
operator will assist you directly with requests such as cryptocard, 
status of
a computer or network, etc.  When other services are needed, the 
operator will
ask you for additional information.  Your request will be logged, 
forwarded to
appropriate SCD group, and tracked.  Occasionally, the operator may ask 
you to
email your request directly to Consulting Services.  This new process will
allow SCD to make the best use of its resources and ensure a timely response
to your questions.
