Yes. Don't bother changing the land use in geo_em. After you run
geogrid, ungrib, and metgrid, and then run real.exe, you can change
the land cover in wrfinput_d01. Then when you run wrf.exe, the new
land cover will be used. <br>

there are several arrays that have this info.</span></p>

correct me if this is wrong) LU_INDEX (i.e. dominant land
cover) is created from the LANDUSEF (i.e. land use
fractions) array. This step is redone when you run
real.exe, so as Frank says it’s best to do this once you
have your met_em files.</span></p>

When I did this kind of change, I found it had to be done
after running real.exe, in the wrf initialization files. If
you change it in the geo files, real changes it back.<br>
