Dear Elena Maria,

with the new gfs files you have to change grib2 codes in Vtable.GFS in order to get TSOIL in the input. Seems that ./real.exe does not take any soil level into account if TSOIL is not present. If you revise the output on the screen while running ungrib, you probably see some 0's in the upper lines below the TSOIL variable.

The problem was solved for me changing the Vtable.GFS by the lines

11 | 112 | 0 | 10 | ST000010 | K | T 0-10 cm below ground layer (Upper) | 2 | 0 | 2 | 106 |
11 | 112 | 10 | 40 | ST010040 | K | T 10-40 cm below ground layer (Upper) | 2 | 0 | 2 | 106 |
11 | 112 | 40 | 100 | ST040100 | K | T 40-100 cm below ground layer (Upper) | 2 | 0 | 2 | 106 |
11 | 112 | 100 | 200 | ST100200 | K | T 100-200 cm below ground layer (Bottom)| 2 | 0 | 2 | 106 |
11 | 112 | 10 | 200 | ST010200 | K | T 10-200 cm below ground layer (Bottom) | 2 | 0 | 2 | 106 |

The changes are in the "Discp" and "Param" columns.
Good morning,

I'm having problems with the new upgraded GFS (0.5 deg).<ftp://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/gfs/prod> After successfully running geogrid, ungrib and metgrid when I run real.exe, I found an error about a mismatch between the NUM_METGRID_SOIL_LEVELS and the PREVIOUS namelist.input (see attached) levels set to 4.

[cid:image001.png@01D03956.2B910780]

I've tried to change the NUM_METGRID_SOIL_LEVELS = 0 as in the metgrid files but then I found the following error

[cid:image002.png@01D03956.2B910780]

[cid:image003.png@01D03956.2B910780]

Does the new GFS configuration really changed to NUM_METGRID_SOIL_LEVELS = 0? Any idea of what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks so much in advance!

Have a nice day,
Elena
