Post-Doctoral Researcher in Meteorology (m/f), CRP-GL, Luxembourg

The Centre de Recherche Public - Gabriel Lippmann, a fast growing public establishment for applied scientific research and technology transfer in Luxembourg, has an opening on a fixed-term contract basis in its department "Environment and Agro-Biotechnologies" (EVA) for a post-doctoral researcher in meteorology (m/f).
EVA-1911-METEO

Duties and responsibilities:
We offer the position of a postdoctoral researcher to work on a fixed-term contract (2 years) in the international project CLIMPACT (“Assessment of regional climate change impacts on the water cycle in Luxembourg and neighbouring regions”) funded by the CORE program of the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR).
The project covers two main topics: 1) a comprehensive regional climate change assessment with a focus on hydrometeorology based on existing datasets including bias-corrections and uncertainty assessments; 2) high resolution regional climate change projections for Luxembourg and the surrounding regions (Southern Belgium, Western Germany, Eastern France) down to resolutions of 1 km to better capture momentum, energy and mass transfers as associated to small-scale surface heterogeneities in the framework of a small multi-model ensemble.
Tasks include e.g. the handling of climate change impact analyses based on large datasets of existing projects, the experiment design, setup and conduction of specific high resolution RCM runs, the derivation of climate change diagnostics and the analyses of boundary layer processes to assess changes in the surface-atmosphere coupling under climate change conditions. Work is to be carried out mainly on our in-house HPC-system Linux cluster and compute servers using Fortran and standard scientific programming languages.

Qualifications:
Candidates should hold a PhD in either meteorology, physics, mathematics, geosciences or a related field.
A specialization and proven experience in regional atmospheric numerical modelling, dynamical downscaling (ideally with the WRF/ARW model) and proficiency in boundary-layer processes is an absolute necessity. Knowledge of scientific computing and visualisation techniques as well as advanced data analyses are expected.
Fluency in English (spoken and written) is a must, knowledge of French will be considered as an advantage.

Application:
For applying, the candidates should provide the following documents:
- a letter of motivation
- a curriculum vitae

Candidates who are interested in the position should send their application (with the above reference) by e-mail to recrutement@lippmann.lu or by mail to: CRP - Gabriel Lippmann; Service du personnel; 41, rue du Brill; L-4422 BELVAUX; Luxembourg.
