there are few sources where you can find more current data, as you didnt
put what dates you are interested in, check these places out

for RTG high resolution SST data
ftp://polar.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/history/sst/rtg_high_res

for OISST data
http://www.remss.com/measurements/sea-surface-temperature/oisst-description

for GHRSST
http://apdrc.soest.hawaii.edu/data/data.php?discipline_index=2

and also
http://marine.copernicus.eu/services-portfolio/access-to-products/?option=com_csw&task=results&advancedsearch-geographical_area[]=advancedsearch-geographical_area-global-ocean

you can try any of these, however, if you are going to download netcdf file
than you will have to figure out how to put that data to wrflowinp files
yourself. as the data n ungrib is mostly from grid files.

Also, you can overwrite the metgrid files (where you can modify SST
variable for the
dataset used)
