[Wrf-users] Effect of decreasing time step

Hi

It is recommended to run WRF with a timestep = 3 to 6 times dx.
However, I have noticed that though dt>6dx sometimes blows up the model
after few timesteps, dt<3dx does not.

What would be the effect of using timestep less than 3 dx? For example dt =
1.5 dx. Will it compromise the model solution in some way? If yes, what
variables will be most affected? If no, why is there a restriction of
dt>3dx ?

Thanks in advance
