Attached is the announcement one of several postdoc positions available in my lab. I'm happy to answer informal questions about the position. Please send CVs to Kathy Law and Jean-Christophe Raut.

Post-doctoral research position on the ‘Regional modelling of short-lived climate forcers’ at Laboratoire Atmosphères, Milieux, Observations Spatiales (LATMOS), Université Pierre et Marie Curie/CNRS, Paris, France

************************************************************************

A research position is available for 2-3 years to work on the ECLIPSE (Evaluating the Climate and Air Quality Impacts of Short-Lived Pollutants) project recently been accepted for funding by the European Commission. The main goal of ECLIPSE, which involves several European groups, is to develop and assess effective emission abatement strategies for short-lived climate forcers, notably tropospheric ozone and black carbon, in order to provide sound scientific advice on measures that mitigate climate change and improve air quality at the same time. A key part of the work will be to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of global chemistry-climate models used to assess the climate and air quality impacts of short-lived climate forcers. In particular, the work at LATMOS will be to carry out high-resolution case studies using the WRF-Chem model over major emission regions. Long-range transport between pollution source and receptor regions (such as the Arctic) will also be investigated. Process based analysis of ozone and aerosols through comparison with observations will be used to evaluate model performance.

Applications are invited from post-doctoral researchers with a PhD in environmental or atmospheric sciences and ideally experience in running chemical-aerosol models and data analysis. Candidates should have a good working knowledge of computer programming (Unix, Fortran, IDL/Matlab/NCL), be proficient in English and willing to work in an international framework attending project meetings and conferences. The position is available from late-autumn 2011.

To apply send a detailed CV (including publication list), a letter of motivation (in English) and email addresses of 3 referees to Kathy.Law at latmos.ipsl.fr and Jean-Christophe.Raut at latmos.ipsl.fr.

Review of the applications will start in mid-September 2011 and the position is open until filled. LATMOS ((http://www.latmos.ipsl.fr/ ) is located in central Paris at the Jussieu campus of Universite Pierre et Marie Curie (http://www.upmc.fr/en/index.html ). It is a joint CNRS/university laboratory which is also part of the Institut Pierre Simon Laplace (http://www.ipsl.fr/). It carries out research into a wide range of topics related to atmospheric science.

Cheers,
Jennie Thomas
