[Wrf-users] idealised f-plane simulations

Dear all,

I would like to do some idealised simulations on an f-plane.

I've modified the test/hill2d_x test case to a case with westerly flow
impinging upon a 3D mountain. This was relatively problem free procedure.

The problems comes when including the Coriolis parameter.
I've tried just modifying the grid%f(i,j) but that is clearly not enough
to initialise the model and run it:
- The initial conditions are not in geostrophic balance and the
simulation goes pear-shaped with e.g. the wind vector turning clockwise
and there is a large imbalance at the upwind boundaries.

Does anyone have idea how I could set up initial conditions and
boundaries for a 3D idealised simulation on an f-plane?

Also there are a lot of variables in the test/em_XXX.F files that are
unexplained.
Does anyone know for example what is the difference between clat and
xlat? And what is msftx?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

G. Nina Petersen
