Dear Colleagues, we are looking for a full time postdoctoral researcher in the Climate and Ocean Physics group in Oxford. The closing date is Oct 11th. Further details about the position and application are below. Best Wishes, Laure

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral researcher to work in the Climate and Ocean Physics group at the University of Oxford. The post is based within the sub-department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics (AOPP), Department of Physics (Oxford). The position, funded by a NERC research grant, is available as soon as possible after an offer has been made, for up to 36 months. Salary at Grade 7: £29,541 - £36,298 p.a.

The successful applicant will work closely with Dr Laure Zanna to develop and implement a novel parameterization of ocean mesoscale eddies in a primitive equation model, building on several active research projects in the Climate and Ocean Physics Group. More specifically, the goal of the project is to assess the mean state, variability and predictability of climate phenomena in a coupled ocean-atmosphere coarse resolution model which includes a stochastic (or statistical) parameterization of ocean eddies. These assessments will be carried out against observations and eddy-resolving simulations. This approach will improve our physical understanding of the dynamics of ocean eddies and their impact on the large-scale climate variability and predictability.

Applicants should have, or be close to obtaining a doctorate in physics, applied mathematics, engineering, or earth sciences, and ideally a strong background in climate dynamics and experience in numerical modelling.

Please direct informal enquiries about this post to Dr Laure Zanna (l.zanna1 at physics.ox.ac.uk<mailto:l.zanna1 at physics.ox.ac.uk>)

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Friday 11 October 2013 can be considered. You will be required to upload a brief statement of research interests, CV and details of two referees as part of your online application.
