The Capacity Center for Climate and Weather Extremes (C3WE/MMM) and
the Institute for Mathematics Applied to Geosciences (IMAGE) are
hosting a Regional Climate Tutorial designed for graduate students,
researchers, and professionals from industry, government, and other
societal groups. The Tutorial provides a broad overview of best
practices for developing regional climate data and how it can be used
for impact assessments. The Tutorial consists of both lectures and
hands-on laboratory exercises, which will be taught by a team of NCAR
climate scientists, regional climate modelers, and data scientists.

The 6th Regional Climate Tutorial will be offered over a 3-day period
from Monday July 10 – Wednesday 12 July, 2017 at the NCAR Foothills
Laboratory, Boulder, Colorado.

Topics include:

1. Dynamical Downscaling (The WRF model will be used as an example of
a regional climate model.)

- Best practices and guidance on designing regional climate simulations

- Evaluating dynamical model output

- Manipulating dynamical model output

- Sources of uncertainty in regional climate simulations

- High-resolution climate modeling

2. Statistical downscaling of regional climate

- Overview of statistical downscaling methods

- Statistical modeling of extreme values

- Spatial statistics

- Estimating local impacts and extreme events not captured by dynamical models

DATES: July 10-12, 2017

LOCATION: NCAR Foothills Laboratory, Boulder, Colorado, USA

PAYMENT DEADLINE: May 26, 2017

REGISTRATION FEES:

All Universities, U.S. Government, & NCAR/UCAR $300.00
