International
Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI) is seeking an
outstanding
individual to contribute to interdisciplinary research on
climatic,
socio-economic and contextual determinants of food security to
assist humanitarian
intervention in anticipation of emergencies as well as in
planning for recovery.
Tasks will include quantitative analyses to assess climate
predictability on
time scales from intra-seasonal to multi-decadal, and to
characterize the
climate sensitivity of food security at sub-national scale. This
position is
part of IRI’s on-going collaboration with the UN World Food
Programme (WFP) in
the context of its Food Security Climate Resilience Facility
(FoodSECuRE). The
work will include interaction with headquarters, regional and
country offices
of WFP and its in-country partner institutions. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

EN-US">Qualifications: </span></b><span

must have a
PhD degree in climate or a related discipline and at least two
years of
post-PhD experience. The successful candidate will have
excellent statistical
skills and a strong track record in climate analysis, as well as
experience in
applying climate information in an interdisciplinary context.
Experience with
seasonal climate prediction/famine early warning systems,
physical
interpretation of climate change processes, and multivariate
statistical
methods are essential. Familiarity with Matlab, R, or another
scientific
programming language is required, and experience in the use of
climate
information tools such as the IRI Data Library and the Climate
Predictability
Tool is desirable. Experience in applying climate science to
agricultural
development or food security challenges would be an advantage.
Outstanding
written and verbal communication skills in English, including
peer-reviewed
scientific publications are essential.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
