<p class="MsoNormal">Job Description: Candidate will support the
Environmental
Modeling Center (EMC) of the National Centers for Environmental
Prediction
(NCEP). Candidate will be responsible for developing and upgrading
model
physics in the Hurricane WRF (HWRF) model, carrying out model
diagnostics,
improving model numerics, and optimizing the HWRF code. Application of
upgrades
and diagnostics are needed to improve hurricane track, intensity,
structure
forecasts in addition to improving forecasts of other tropical
planetary
motions. Duties may also include modeling of larger scale tropical
systems and
features. <br>
<br>
Education: Position requires an M.S. or Ph.D.in Meteorology/Atmospheric
Science. <br>
<br>
Required Skills: Candidate must have to ability to develop and write
programs
and scripts using FORTRAN 90 and UNIX. Candidate should have extensive
hands on
hurricane/tropical modeling/NWP experience including a very strong
background
in understanding physical processes in the tropics for both large and
small
scale motions. <br>
<br>
Desired Skills: Experience with graphics packages (NCAR, GEMPAK, and
Grads),
web site design and construction, and MPI are a plus. Experience with
the
design and implementation of operational software is strongly desired. </p>
