Research Position in Ocean Dynamics


The Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences, Johns Hopkins University, invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate or assistant research scientist. The successful candidate will join a team that is investigating sea-surface temperature and salinity dynamics using satellite data and coupled models. The research aims to diagnose, quantify, and understand the mechanisms controlling the propagation of ocean surface anomalies in these properties, among others. It will also develop metrics for ocean models and coupled climate models involved in prediction. Other opportunities in dynamical oceanography may also be available. An ideal candidate will be a creative, independent thinker with a Ph.D. in dynamical or physical oceanography, but applicants in related fields will also be closely considered. Knowledge in one or more of the following areas is advantageous: ocean circulation and dynamics, ocean remote sensing, numerical ocean models, and coupled climate dynamics. The start date is negotiable, but completion of the Ph.D. is required. The appointment may extend up to three years. Appointees will receive a competitive salary and benefits and will be eligible to participate in Johns Hopkins University health plans.
