*Staff Associate position, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia 
University*

The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites 
applications for a Staff Associate to be involved in the processing and 
analysis of spatial reference data from a ground based and airborne ice 
imaging system used by the Polar Geophysics Group.The ice imaging system 
is used to monitor changing ice sheets, glaciers, and sea ice in the 
Arctic and Antarctic regions on sponsored projects.The position will be 
responsible for operating the gravity systems in the field, quality 
control of the data and produce final data products.The position will 
work with both standard gyro-stabilized system and a strap-down IMU sensor.

Candidates should have a minimum of four years related experience with a 
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline within engineering or 
science, or 2 years of related experience with a MS degree in Geodesy or 
another relevant discipline.Must be able to use ArcGIS.Excellent 
interpersonal skills and written communication skills in English are 
required.Experience of working with Inertial Measurement Units (IMU’s) 
and mixing data sets from GPS receivers and IMU’s would be 
advantageous.Candidate will need to pass a pre-travel physical exam 
prior to working at remote locations.

Appointment will be for 1-year, with continuation pending funding and 
progress.
