A postdoctoral position is available in the Russell Research Group at
Scripps Institution of Oceanography in the University of California, San
Diego. The successful candidate will be responsible for comparing and
interpreting the modeled and observed cloud effects of aerosol using
CESM/CAM5 simulations and observational records, in collaboration with
members of the NSF/DOE SIO-PNNL-NCAR EaSM team. The focus of the project
is on understanding the interaction between multi-year cycles in the
atmosphere and climate (e.g. ENSO, AMO, PDO) with aerosol emissions,
concentrations, and forcing. The successful candidate will lead the
scientific analysis of simulations and observations of one or more types
of natural aerosol emissions (including DMS). He/she would also have the
opportunity to be involved in additional projects, likely including
wildfires and biogenic emissions.

A completed PhD within the last 3 years in atmospheric sciences, earth
or ocean sciences, or a related discipline is required. Required skills
include computer programming, statistics, and complex data analysis.
Experience with EOF and other statistical analyses of long climate or
meteorological model simulations (150 years) and large climate,
meteorological, or related satellite data sets (50 years) is highly
desirable. The successful candidate will also havea demonstrated
commitment to publication of results. Strong verbal and written
communication skills are necessary.

To apply, please send email to me at lmrussell at ucsd.edu

a cover letter describing your research interests, a CV, date of
availability, 1-3 first-author journal paper reprints in PDF, and a list
of 4 references. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the
expectation of renewal for at least one year upon satisfactory
performance, with additional years possible pending continued funding.
Background information about the research group, techniques, and
previous publications and projects is available at
