Job Description


General Summary

The Meteorological Applications Developer supports product development
activities for the EarthSat Weather Services Division.  The position is
responsible for developing value-added weather products from a multitude
of meteorological data sources.  This position requires a
highly-motivated individual who can work in a fast-paced, real-time,
client-driven environment.

 

Essential Job Functions

*	Write code to facilitate new product development
*	Maintain and improve existing code
*	Compile historical datasets and implement real-time data feeds
for clients
*	Work with large datasets including meteorological station
reports (METAR, SYNOP), National Weather Service text products, radar,
satellite, and grid model data
*	Contribute creative solutions to enhance value and improve
efficiency in products


Job Requirements


Required Qualifications

*	Proficiency in C, Perl and shell scripting languages
*	Experience programming on a UNIX/Linux platform
*	B.S. in physical science (preferably meteorology) with
supplemental coursework or comparable professional experience in
computer science
*	Ability to ingest, process, and disseminate various
meteorological datasets
*	Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet
client-driven deadlines
*	Ability to function independently and work effectively in a
small-team environment 
*	Ability to communicate clearly and effectively

Desired Qualifications

*	Database/SQL experience
*	Experience programming in Fortran, PHP, HTML or JavaScript
languages
*	Ability to perform statistical analyses
*	Experience creating forecast model graphics with GrADS
