You are invited to join famed documentary filmmaker Geoffrey
Haines-Stiles and go behind the scenes of “Earth: The Operators’ Manual” for
selected clips, rarely seen footage, and commentary from the
writer-director himself here at our Mesa Lab. He will share lessons from
the project that are both informative and amusing, highlighting
strategies for communicating science that have worked along the way --
and others that have not.

    Date: Friday, September 14, 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
    Venue: ML-132 Main Seminar Room*

A Q&A session will be part of this discussion, with a cocktail reception
with Geoff to follow.

*Seating is limited for this event. Please RSVP by September 5 at the
following link: https://survey.ucar.edu/s?s=8358

I look forward to seeing you there. Please contact me with any questions
you may have.

Best regards,

Matt Hirschland

About the film

In April 2011, the NSF-sponsored documentary mini-series 'Earth: The
Operator's Manual' debuted on PBS, bringing hope that the programs would
stir the national dialogue on climate science. Filmed by acclaimed
writer and director Geoff Haines-Stiles it features Penn State geologist
Richard Alley. Link: http://www.pbs.org/programs/earth-the-operators-manual/

"Earth: The Operators’ Manual” dispenses with politics, polemics or
punditry; instead, it presents an objective, accessible assessment of
the Earth’s problems and possibilities that will leave viewers informed,
energized and optimistic.

“If we approach Earth as if we have an Operators’ Manual, we can avoid
climate catastrophes, improve energy security, and make millions of good
jobs.”
—Richard Alley, Host of “Earth: The Operators’ Manual”
