*Global Climate Change Research and Education (GCCRE) Workshop*

*PROJECT SUMMARY*

* *

The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) in
Boulder, Colorado in collaboration with the GLOBE program, the World
Meteorological Organization and other U.S. and International
organizations propose a workshop to enhance both climate research and
education in the U.S. and internationally. The overall goal of the
international /Global Climate Change Research and Education (GCCRE) /
workshop is to bring together both the climate science and climate
education communities to establish and secure commitments to a global
climate research campaign that will engage students and citizens in
climate science at local, regional, and global scales, and identify
opportunities for them to contribute to relevant climate science
research investigations.* *Approximately 20-25 people will
participate in the GCCRE workshop in Geneva, Switzerland, in January
2009, while hundreds of other scientists and educators will have the
opportunity to participate as cyber-participants in GCCRE workshop
activities

The workshop will be organized into three components:

(1) A pre-workshop component that will engage participation of a wide
variety of climate scientists and educators over a two-week period
prior to the workshop (i.e. early January 2009), (2) The (syn-)
workshop component involving presentations, discussions, and
consensus building over a 3-4 day period, and (3) A post-workshop
component that will result in a draft action plan identifying the
strategic components, tasks, and organizations necessary to promote
effective world-wide participation in the 2011-2013 Student Research
Campaign on Climate Change.
