Call for Proposals from the NCAR Staff
2008 ASP Summer Colloquium

Deadline: October 15, 2007

ASP invites proposals from the NCAR staff for the annual summer
colloquium topic for 2008. As you may know, ASP hosts a summer
colloquium designed for graduate students. We favor subjects that
represent new or rapidly developing areas or research for which good
course material may not yet be available. The colloquium brings together
lecturers and graduate students for two weeks for classroom
presentations at NCAR and other forms of instruction and interaction.
ASP provides support for the costs of the meeting, typically for about
25 student participants and up to 10 lecturers from the community at large.

Your proposal should be 2-3 pages in length. Successful proposals
generally include a non-NCAR co-convener. Please include some detail
about how the colloquium will be structured, but not a day-by-day
schedule. You may wish to include some information about hands on
tutorials, along with prospective scientific co-organizers and
lecturers. Also, who are the target students? Please keep in mind that
the colloquium is not meant to support ongoing workshop activities; it
must be a stand-alone event, and it cannot be longer than two weeks. If
you plan to include hands on computer tutorials or interactive
exercises, please let us know who will be providing the systems support.
Please note that the ASP has reserved the CTTC for potential use, but
your proposal should include detailed plans for the support and use of
any other computer resources.

The ASP schedule allows for your proposed colloquium to occur during one
of the following periods at the Mesa Lab and CTTC:
     June 2008 - Monday 6/2 through Friday 6/13
     July 2008 - Monday 7/21 through Friday 8/1
Please indicate your preference in your proposal.

Questions and proposals can be referred to Paula Fisher, paulad at ucar.edu.
