SEMINAR ON SURVEY OF NCAR SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL STAFF

TO: All Scientific and Technical Staff
WHAT: Seminar and Survey Announcement
WHO: Dr. Diana Rhoten, Social Science Research Council
WHEN: Monday, 24 January, 2:00 – 3:30, FL2-1001 and
		Tuesday, 25 January, 9:00 – 10:30, ML Main Seminar
Room

The NCAR Directorate has asked Dr. Diana Rhoten (Social Science
Research Council) and Mr. Andrew Parker (Stanford University) to
design and administer a survey to measure and characterize the
collaborative activities undertaken at NCAR by the scientific and
technical staff (ladder scientists, associate scientists, project
scientists, engineers and software engineers). We believe that the
survey results will help us document the extent of the
interdisciplinary research undertaken at NCAR and will assist us
with understanding and evaluating the impact of the NCAR
reorganization.

Dr. Rhoten’s and Mr. Parker’s research focuses on examining
interdisciplinary research. They are particularly interested in
examining the composition and methods of research teams and groups
and investigating how these factors influence the conduct of
research programs and experiments and the products produced. They
are particularly interested in studying NCAR because of the wide
range of research areas studied within the organization.

The survey is nearly ready to be administered, so in order to
provide you with more information we have invited Dr. Rhoten to
present two seminars on the survey’s processes, goals and results.
Please join us at FL (on Monday) or ML (on Tuesday) for one of the
seminars.
