[ncl-install] error: conda installed NCL reading NetCDF-4

Hi ncl-install team,
I installed NCL in a clean conda environment but it sends out really long
error msg reading NetCDF-4 files:
NC4_open: path /data/wenshanw/merra2/netcdf/rdn/ant_box2/MERRA2_300.tavg1
_2d_rad_Nx.20040624.SUB.nc mode 4096 params 0
HDF5 error messages turned on.
...
ERROR: Invalid _NCProperties attribute
Do you have any ideas what went wrong?
No such errors using other software on the same data file.
