I’m very sorry about the delayed response to your original question, I hope I can still help you solve this problem.
Based on the error message, I think the fix should just be to install XQuartz (X11 window server for Mac): https://www.xquartz.org/ <https://www.xquartz.org/>
Please let us know if you’re still having trouble running NCL after installing XQuartz.
