[ncl-install] Fortran for 64 bit IMac?

I have seen but previously ignored discussions of fortran on this forum, but since I only have Fortran available on external systems like those at GFDI, and NCL only available on my IMac decided that I should bit the bullet and get a Fortran for the IMac.

Web discussions indicate this is not all roses, and some have had to utilize commands to downgrade their object files to 32 bit since  not all Fortran knows about 64 bit.

Are some of the readers of this forum 64 bit Mac users who might advise on what is easy to install and works well?
