Title: Relaxation-based approximate Riemann solvers for compressible flows

Abstract:
I will present new numerical methods for the Euler equations and the
ideal MHD (magnetohydrodynamics) equations. These methods satisfy two
important stability criteria: They preserve positivity of density and
pressure, and satisfy a discrete entropy inequality. The talk will focus
on (i) A numerical study for compressible high Mach number flows,
including isotropic turbulence, and (ii) The extension of the approach
to MHD. The results are from joint work with Francois Bouchut, Christian
Klingenberg and
Wolfram Schmidt.
