        IRI invites applications for an Associate Research Scientist
        position in
        Subseasonal-to-Seasonal (S2S) Climate Variability and
        Prediction, to be located
        at the Lamont Campus of Columbia University. The primary
        responsibilities will
        be to (1) advance research in the understanding of the weather
        and climate
        system at sub-seasonal and seasonal timescales; (2) develop S2S
        predictive
        capabilities relevant to climate services; and (3) to support
        and further
        develop predictive software, such as IRI’s Climate
        Predictability Tool. </span>
    </p>
    <p class="m_-6912859471996429211Body" style="text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica","sans-serif""></span><b><span style="font-family:"Helvetica","sans-serif"">Minimum Qualifications:</span></b><span style="font-family:"Helvetica","sans-serif""> Applicants must have a PhD degree
        in climate,
        atmospheric science, statistics, or related field. At least one
        year of relevant
        employment experience after having been awarded a PhD is
        required, as well as a
        strong publication record. Familiarity with multi-model seasonal
        forecasting
        and verification, including experience with a range of
        statistical
        methodologies relevant to application of model outputs, is
        necessary. We also
        seek experience designing and performing experiments with global
        climate, and
        earth-system, models. Demonstrated proficiency in scientific
        programming
        languages such as Fortran, Matlab, R and Python is required.
        Knowledge of
        physical mechanisms driving the climate In Latin America and the
        Caribbean
        would be particularly desirable. The successful candidate will
        have expertise
        in S2S diagnostics, modeling and forecasting using dynamical and
        statistical models.</span><span style="font-family:"Helvetica","sans-serif""></span></p>

        climate in order
        to improve human welfare and the environment, especially in

        collaborative partnerships with local, national, regional,
        international,
        public and private institutions facilitating the open exchange
        of ideas,
        information, and technology between many disciplines and
