Postdoctoral Position in Climate and
Atmospheric dynamics at UCLA

UCLA Dept. of Atmospheric and Oceanic
Sciences seeks
postdoctoral scholars in Climate and Atmospheric dynamics, for
positions
supervised by Prof. David Neelin and Prof. Gang Chen.

One position will be in the area of tropical
moist
dynamics and involves a combination of observational analysis,
running and
analyzing climate models and/or stochastic modeling aiming at
understanding the
moist processes underlying extreme event statistics and
constraining or improving
their representation in climate models. Another position will be
in the area of
large-scale atmospheric dynamics and transport.
The goal of the project is to understand the large-scale
atmospheric
transport and mixing of moisture and/or trace gases, how the
atmospheric
circulation may respond to future climate change, and the
implications for
extreme weather events, using a combination of observations,
theory, and/or
idealized and comprehensive modeling. The positions are available
immediately.
Each position would initially be for one year, but renewable for
up to two
years, contingent upon satisfactory progress. Applicants should
have a Ph.D. in
Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences or a related field, effective
oral and written
communication skills, and strong programming and analytical
skills.

Applicants should submit a complete CV,
including a list
of refereed publications and contact information for three
references. These
materials should be addressed to David Neelin
