<p class="MsoNormal">NCAR has received a high number of film crew requests in
recent months, with documentary makers and television reporters increasingly
interested in covering our research. Please share these procedures with your
labs and sections to assure the success of film crew interviews while
minimizing the impact on NCAR or UCAR staff.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">If you or a scientist are contacted by a film crew, please notify
us at the NCAR|UCAR Media Office as soon as possible:</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Once notified, the Media Office assures that these criteria are
met:</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p style="margin-left:0.75in"><span style="font-family:Symbol">·<span style="font-stretch:normal;font-size:7pt;font-family:'Times New Roman'">
</span></span>Film crews are permitted only if they are
producing stories that involve our organization. They are not allowed to use
our facilities for commercial shoots or stories that are not related to NCAR or
UCAR.</p>
<p style="margin-left:0.75in"><span style="font-family:Symbol">·<span style="font-stretch:normal;font-size:7pt;font-family:'Times New Roman'">
</span></span>Film crews must be associated with an accredited
organization and have a scheduled date for when their story will air. </p>
<p style="margin-left:0.75in"><span style="font-family:Symbol">·<span style="font-stretch:normal;font-size:7pt;font-family:'Times New Roman'">
</span></span>UCAR Security and other staff that may be
affected by a crew visit must be notified in advance.</p>
<p style="margin-left:0.75in"><span style="font-family:Symbol">·<span style="font-stretch:normal;font-size:7pt;font-family:'Times New Roman'">
</span></span>Film crews must be escorted during all times
when they are on our premises. The Media Office, or a designated representative
of the office, is responsible for escorting the crews.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">At the Media Office within NCAR|UCAR Communications, we're
pleased that efforts to raise NCAR's visibility have born fruit as television
reporters and documentary producers reach out to us, wanting to cover our
research. Stories by established documentary filmmakers and widely viewed
television channels regularly appear across the U.S. and as far away as Japan
and Chile. Film crews, however, can be highly labor intensive. These procedures, developed in consultation
with NSF, are designed to minimize any inconvenience that a film crew may
present to staff. </p>
