available at Uni Research Climate. The appointment will start as soon as
possible with negotiable starting date. Uni Research Climate is a
department of Uni Research AS and partner of the Bjerknes Centre for
Climate Research (BCCR) in Bergen, Norway. The candidate will work under
the Norwegian Research Council funded project ORGANIC (Overturning
circulation and its implications for global carbon cycle in coupled
models).

The researcher will join the biogeochemical modelling group in BCCR,
which is part of a dynamic team of Earth system modellers. He/She will
participate in the planned development activities for the next
generation Norwegian Earth system model (NorESM). His/Her modelling
activities will focus on advancing the ocean biogeochemical general
circulation model MICOM-HAMOCC (Miami Isopycnic Coordinate Ocean Model –
HAMburg Oceanic Carbon Cycle) as part of NorESM.

One of the main goals of the project ORGANIC is to elucidate the role of
ocean biogeochemistry in regulating past and potentially future climate
variability at various spatial and temporal scales. The tasks include
developing a new computationally efficient method (e.g., combination of
transport matrix and matrix-free Newton-Krylov method) to accelerate the
MICOM-HAMOCC model spin-up to arrive at different climate equilibria
under various periods. Their impact of climate and ocean physics on
interior ocean biogeochemical tracer cycling will be quantified, also in
view of climate projections driven by future scenarios. In addition,
the successful candidate will be involved in evaluation and uncertainty
analysis of future climate simulations - e.g., those of the Coupled
Model Intercomparison Project phase 6 (CMIP6) - and writing of
peer-reviewed scientific publications.
