Research Position in High-Resolution Modelling
ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate System Science,
The University of Melbourne
We seek an outstanding candidate with high-level technical skills to
work on the ACCESS model. The successful candidate will help develop
and evaluate high-resolution versions of the model over the Maritime
Continent, with specific emphasis on convection-permitting
capabilities.
This is a one-year fixed term position that is fully integrated within
the Tropical Convection Research Program of the ARC Centre of
Excellence (CoE) for Climate System Science. The position will be
located at The University of Melbourne, but will collaborate with
other nodes of the CoE, CAWCR, and the UK Met Office.
Candidates should have a PhD in atmospheric science (or a related
discipline) or sufficient relevant experience. We seek candidates with
demonstrated experience in atmospheric modelling, and previous
experience with ACCESS (or the Unified Model) is highly desirable. It
is anticipated that this appointment will be made at academic level A
($77,290-$82,963 + superannuation), but appointment to higher levels
might be considered for more experienced candidates.

National Centre for Atmospheric Science and the Institute for Climate

Associate Professor in Observational Meteorology
University Grade 9 (£45,951 - £53,233 per annum)
The National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) and the Institute
for
Climate and Atmospheric Science (ICAS) are seeking to appoint an
Associate
Professor in Observational Meteorology.
NCAS has recently purchased a mobile Doppler dual-polarisation X-band
radar.
You will have a strong research background in atmospheric science and
will
be able to make full use of the radar. You will be able to lead
national
expertise in the use of radar observations, particularly in the area
of
convection. You will have the support of the NCAS Radar Instrument
Scientist, Dr Lindsay Bennett, in developing this expertise and will
work
closely with other NCAS Weather and ICAS scientists involved in
observational meteorology.
You will make a significant contribution to the research profile of
the NCAS
Weather Directorate and ICAS and to their management and development.
In
particular you will be expected to provide/develop strategic
leadership in
the area of mesoscale observational meteorology with an emphasis on
convection. You will contribute to research supervision and to
teaching on
topics related to atmospheric science in our undergraduate and
postgraduate
programmes.
You will have a doctoral degree in a physical science. You will have a
strong publication record, show evidence of research income
generation,
together with teaching experience or potential and show strong vision
for
the future.
This is a joint appointment of NCAS (60%) and ICAS, which is in the
School
of Earth and Environment (40%), University of Leeds.

commencing 19 August 2013.
