*Postdoctoral position on tropical rain belts, Lamont-Doherty Earth
Observatory of Columbia University *
The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites
applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position on the subject
of tropical rain belts. The successful candidate will work on a NSF funded
project to evaluate, use and further develop the TRACMIP climate model
ensemble to elucidate the dynamics of tropical rain belts, their seasonal
evolution and their response to climate change. TRACMIP aims to bring into
clear definition the essential similarities and differences in the oceanic
ITCZ and the land monsoons through a hierarchy of idealized model setups
and to identify mechanisms that are robust across a range of
simplifications.

The position will be located at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in
Palisades, NY in the research group of Professor Michela Biasutti and will
be in collaboration with Dr. Aiko Voigt from Karlsruhe Institute of
Technology, Germany, and Prof. Jack Scheff from University of North
Carolina in Charlotte.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in atmospheric or climate science.
A background in tropical dynamics and experience in analyzing large
multi-model datasets are a plus. Excellent skills in scientific writing in
English, a strong motivation and ability to carry out research
independently as well as in a team, and the ability to effectively
communicate the results within the project and to outside colleagues
through publications and conference presentations are preferred.

The appointment is anticipated for spring 2018 and will be for 1 year, with
continuation pending on funding and progress. Postdocs are limited to a
total of five years of combined experience, with no more than three years
with Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.

Search will remain open for at least 30 days after the ad appears and will
continue until the position is filled.
