Hi all,
A colleague of mine at CU is inviting graduate students working at NCAR or
graduate student visitors at NCAR this summer to participate in this
outreach opportunity. You can contact the organizers directly.
Regards,
Rebecca
*Do you want to help kids learn about climate science *
*through filmmaking? Become a Lens on Climate Change Science Mentor!*
The Lens on Climate Change (LOCC) engages middle and high school students
in film production documenting the effects of climatic changes on their
lives and in their communities. Students are paired with science and film
mentors to research, film, edit, and screen their films. The collaboration
with mentors will provide the younger students with an introduction to
college life and science careers.
*We are looking for CU graduate students from across the sciences to act as
mentors during one of three summer workshops* (mentors are encouraged to
participate in as many workshops as they can):
*June 19-23 at the University of Colorado Boulder*
*July 11-15 in Salida, Colorado*
*July 18-22 at the University of Colorado Boulder*
*The commitment:* 30 hrs during the workshop, plus time to attend a mentor
training prior to the workshop (2 hrs) and time to complete surveys for the
research and evaluation of the project (1 hr)
*The compensation:* $400 for the workshops at CU; $500 for the workshop in
Salida. Participants in the Salida workshop will also receive lodging, and
reimbursement of travel expenses.
*If you are interested, *please contact Erin Leckey, the program manager
for LOCC at*Erin.Leckey at colorado.edu* <Erin.Leckey at colorado.edu>
