Teaching Statements for Faculty Applications

Dear all,

The NCAR Education & Outreach Office with its program for graduate students
and postdocs is offering a new professional development series, led by Dr.
Valerie Sloan. We will offer seminars every other month and invite all
postdocs and graduate students at NCAR and UCP, as well as atmospheric
science postdocs at NOAA or CU to attend.

Please join us for the first workshop in the series on *Wed., May 3rd at
3:00 pm* at the NCAR Mesa Lab, Damon Room, on *"Writing a Teaching
Statement.” *

A teaching philosophy statement is a narrative that includes your
conception of teaching and learning, and a description of how you teach.
These are generally required for applications to faculty positions.

Our *guest speaker will be Dr. Michael Kerwin*, faculty member in the
University of Denver’s Department of Geography and the Environment. Mike’s
passion is teaching, he has won several teaching awards (including the
University
of Denver’s William T. Driscoll Master Educator Award), and he has been on
several search committees that review teaching statements.

The workshop format will include: (1) a short talk about teaching
statements, (2) a Q & A session, and (3) an opportunity to work on your own
teaching statement with feedback from the speaker and others. Bring a
printout of your draft teaching statement or your laptop.

statement, visit these sites:

Regards,
Rebecca
