*Assistant Researcher Position in Regional Climate Change at UCLA*

Prof. Alex Hall at the UCLA Center for Climate Science seeks an Assistant
Researcher to take a lead role in conducting and organizing research
related to regional climate and regional climate change.

The UCLA Center for Climate Science enables real-world climate change
problem-solving by developing innovative methods to produce fine-scale
projections of future climate. It also builds earth system modeling
frameworks to allow those projections to be used for interdisciplinary
climate impacts research of practical use to stakeholders. Finally, the
Center coordinates research collaborations and engages planners,
decision-makers, the media, and the public.

Initially, the Assistant Researcher will focus on launching and
coordinating recently funded projects. Over time, the Assistant Researcher
will take responsibility for developing and maintaining a strong research
program by managing and coordinating a team of students and postdocs;
coordinating interdisciplinary research with other entities on campus, as
well as external collaborators; and pursuing funding opportunities.
Initially, the successful candidate will be closely mentored by Prof. Alex
Hall. Thus the position is an excellent opportunity for a young researcher
to gain leadership experience and influence the direction of a successful
research center.

At present, there are 3 years of guaranteed funding for this position. The
Center's Director and Associate Director (Prof. Alex Hall and Ms. Katharine
Reich) will be actively engaged with the successful candidate in obtaining
funding to continue the position beyond 3 years.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. and ideally, some research experience beyond
the Ph.D. Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary, in
addition to scientific creativity and strong technical skills. Experience
mentoring students or postdocs and writing grants is desirable.

Applicants should submit (1) a statement of research interests and goals,
no longer than one page, and (2) a complete CV, including contact
information for three references. These materials should be addressed to
Ms. Katharine Reich at kreich at ioes.ucla.edu. Consideration of applications
will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. For more

activities, visit www.ioes.ucla.edu/climate.
