To: summerschool2018 at le.isac.cnr.it

Dear Colleagues,
We are organizing the 7th Summer School at the ISAC Institute, Lecce Unit.
This year the
topic of the school will be

Precipitation: Remote Sensing and Modelling

The school will take place at Hotel Orsa Maggiore (
http://www.orsamaggiore.it/) in Castro
Marina, a very nice marine resort close to Lecce, in the south-eastern
corner of Italy, 18 to 22
June 2018.

The purpose of the Summer School is to provide an intensive and
comprehensive review of
current knowledge of precipitation, considering in particular its remote
sensing retrieval from
ground based and satellite radar and radiometer systems. Also, the
formation mechanisms
and structure of precipitation issues will be discussed. It is primarily
addressed to PhD and
Master students in atmospheric sciences and professionals from regional and
national
meteorological agencies.

The lecture and seminar program is as follows:

Véronique Ducrocq (CNRM, Météo-France ; CNRS)
Phenomenology of heavy rain events

Chris Kidd (Univ. Maryland and NASA, USA)
Precipitation remote sensing from space

Vincenzo Levizzani (ISAC-CNR, Bologna, Italy)
Precipitation formation mechanisms: microphysics and cloud structure

Mario Montopoli ((ISAC-CNR, Roma, Italy)
Ground based and satellite radar and radiometer systems

Richard Rotunno (NCAR, Boulder, CO, USA)
Structure of severe precipitation systems
