Interesting information about ORCID identifiers.

If you have questions, our libraries are a great resource.

To NCAR / UCAR administrative support staff:

You may wish to share today's announcement about ORCID author identifiers
with your groups.

Many publishers, including AGU, are now requiring the designated
corresponding authors on new articles to submit an ORCID identifier in
addition to the usual contact information. In order to comply with public
access mandates for federally funded research, systems such as the NSF-PAR
(NSF Public Access Repository), allow the incorporation of ORCID IDs in
their records to facilitate grant application processes and disambiguation
of authors with identical or similar names. ORCID is designed to be
interoperable with many other author identity systems such as the Thomson
Reuters ResearcherID and Scopus Author ID.

Staff News, Oct 5, 2016:
http://www2.ucar.edu/for-staff/daily/announcement/register-for-orcid

The NCAR Library recommends that all authors who are concerned about proper
reference citation register for an ORCID identifier
<https://orcid.org/register>. ORCID <https://orcid.org/> (Open Researcher
and Contributor ID) is an open, non-profit, community-driven effort to
create and maintain a registry of unique researcher identifiers and a
transparent method of linking research activities and output. Numerous
publishers have signed an open letter Requiring ORCID in Publication
Workflows
<https://orcid.org/content/requiring-orcid-publication-workflows-open-letter>,
and AGU and the Royal Society in particular now require corresponding
authors to use ORCID.

If you have questions or concerns about setting up an ORCID profile, please
contact us at opensky at ucar.edu or call Michaeleen Trimarchi at x1182.
