*Postdoctoral Position in Climate Dynamics*

The University of Texas Institute for Geophysics (UTIG), part of the
Jackson School of Geosciences (JSG) at the University of Texas at Austin,
seeks a postdoctoral research fellow in climate dynamics. UTIG is known for
international field programs in geophysics, planetary science, and earth
sciences.

*Responsibilities:*

The selected candidate will collaborate with Dr. Pedro DiNezio on projects
focusing on the dynamics of the Earth’s climate. Particular areas of
interest include tropical climatology, ENSO dynamics and prediction,
decadal variability, as well as past and future climate changes. Research
will involve configuring, running, and analyzing climate model simulations,
observational analysis, and the development of process-based diagnostics
and proxy-model synthesis. Candidates are invited to propose specific
research projects aligned with the themes outlined above (optional).

*Required Qualifications:*

• Ph.D. in climate dynamics, physical oceanography, atmospheric science,
or meteorology; ability analyzing large multi-model climate datasets;
ability designing and performing climate model experiments using CESM or a
similar model on a shared super-computing platform; experience using
MATLAB, NCO, Python, or NCL; experience with UNIX shell scripting and
Fortran.

• Written and oral communication skills sufficient to lead author
manuscripts and present research at conferences.

The initial appointment is for one year with a potential extension for an
additional year. Starting date is flexible during summer/fall of 2016.
Salary is $60,000 per year and appointees are eligible for group health and
dental insurance. Limited support will be available for travel, equipment,
and other research expenses.

Consideration of applications will begin May 1, 2016, and will continue
until the position has been filled.

Applications must contain: 1) a current Curriculum Vitae (CV) that includes
education, employment history, and publications; 2) a concise statement of
research interests and how they align with the climate research done at
UTIG; and 3) names and contact information for three individuals willing to
provide references.
