Sciences

*Job Description:* *Spelman College *seeks teacher/scholar dedicated to
excellence in teaching and to the continued enhancement of the academic
environment for students and colleagues.  Founded in 1881, Spelman College
is a private four-year liberal arts college located in Atlanta, GA. The
oldest historically Black college for women in the United States, Spelman
is a member of the Atlanta University Center Consortium and Atlanta
Regional Consortium for Higher Education.  All potentially tenured or
tenured candidates are expected to have a demonstrated interest in liberal
arts and sciences education, be able to contribute effectively to
undergraduate teaching, assist in curriculum development, provide service
to the program and College, as well as be active in scholarly, creative,
and/or research productivity appropriate to a liberal arts environment.

*Job Requirements: **The Environmental and Health and Sciences Program
(EHSP) *invites applications to fill a tenured appointment at the rank
of *Associate
Professor and Chair* *of Environmental and Health Sciences Program (TF0709)*,
to begin August 2016.  We are seeking to fill a tenured faculty position in
the area of earth and atmospheric science with a candidate who has more
than 18 graduate hours of courses in atmospheric sciences.   Potential
candidates should be familiar with modeling tools using software such as
IDL, Arc-GIS, Matlab, and other software tailored to modeling climate
change by using a wide range of approaches such as EBM, GCM, GFDL, GISS
datasets, UKMO, and OCCAM. The successful candidate will collaborate with
faculty within the program in areas of common interest for activities such
as teaching (development of curriculum and innovative teaching materials)
and research, and perform administrative duties. The selected candidate
will serve initially as Program Chair and may receive subsequent
assignments to Chair on a rotating basis.

*Qualifications:*  Ph.D. in earth and atmospheric science, meteorology,
oceanic sciences, oceanic-atmospheric science, or environmental
health-related discipline is required.  Potential candidates should have
expertise and training (research and teaching) in three or all of the
following areas:  1) climate change with health impacts), 2) air
quality/pollution and health, 3). atmospheric circulation dynamics
(cyclonic and anti-cyclonic), and 4). weather analysis and forecast,
weather patterns (thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hurricanes), atmospheric
chemistry, and atmospheric interactions with land, ocean, and ice-cover.
Potential candidates should be leading current research in the area of
atmospheric science and have established collaborations with two or more
universities (national or international) and US institutions in atmospheric
science such as US National Snow & Data Center, NOAA Paleoclimatology, US
National Climate Data Center, NASA GSFC Data Active Archive Center (DAAC),
and National Oceanographic Data Center. Additionally, the ideal candidate
will have a strong commitment to undergraduate research, experimental
learning & innovative teaching, as well as a proven track record in the
ability to transfer his/her research experience to the
classroom/laboratory.

Given the interdisciplinary nature of our program, the candidate should be
able to teach a diversity of courses within both disciplines of
environmental and health sciences.  Also, the candidate is encouraged to
have a background of knowledge, skills and techniques gained from
professional training in both environmental and health-related sciences.
