Dear all,

This is reminder that there will be an ASP research review tomorrow in FL-3,
Room 2072. The presenters will be Jia Hu and Sébastien Blaise. To orient you
to the topics that you will hear tomorrow, here is some background on our
speakers.

*Jia Hu:* Jia received her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley
in 2001 and her Ph.D. from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2009. As a
research associate at Berkeley, from 2001-2003 she climbed redwood trees and
studied the impacts of fog on water use. Before beginning her appointment in
ASP, Jia was a postdoc at Colorado State University. At CSU, she focused on
understanding how climate changes are affecting water and carbon cycling on
the Tibetan Plateau.

*Sébastien Blaise:* Sébastien obtained an MSc degree in Civil Engineering in
2005 from the Université catholique de Louvain, Belgium (UCL). He then
started a PhD on discontinuous Galerkin ocean modeling at the same
university, under the supervision of Eric Deleersnijder and Jean-François
Remacle. He earned his Doctorate in Nobember 2009. As an ASP post-doc, he is
currently contributing to the numerical development of a high-order
hp-adaptive discontinuous Galerkin atmospheric model in collaboration with
Amik St-Cyr and David Hall from the IMAGe institute. The title of his ASP
talk will be, "A dynamic hp-adaptive discontinuous Galerkin method for
shallow water flows on the sphere with application to a global tsunami
simulation."

See you tomorrow,
Vanessa
