NCAR Fellows-
For those of you who are interested in engaging middle and high school
students from underrepresented groups in science or related careers,
please consider the appended opportunity. Even though the terms of your
fellowship appointment may preclude a 2-year commitment, I suspect that
Susan would be pleased to hear from you. Best regards.

Looking for Mentors Working on Front Range Projects

A potential pilot version of SOARS for middle and high school students
is looking to work with scientists who are working on environmental
topics in the Denver/Boulder Metro Area. ìProject Launchî is looking
for science mentors who are willing to help guide a small team of
students on local environmental research projects using GIS or other
information technologies. Ideally, the student project would be
supplemental part of a larger project that would result in a unique
stand alone effort. Participating scientists would benefit from the
extra sets of hands and minds dedicated to pursuing a complimentary
research question. The pilot will run during a 2 year span starting in
the spring of 2008 and only require approximately 30 hours per year of
the science mentorís time. Additional GIS and IT mentors will assist
in software instruction, data collection, and analysis tasks with the
students. There is flexibility in how the collaboration will be
structured and facilitated. If you might be interested and would like
to discuss a possible idea or get more information, please contact
Susan Gallagher at ext. 2580 or sgallagh at ucar.edu. I would like to
talk to anyone potentially interested in this pilot by Tuesday, May 1st.

For more information, contact Susan Gallagher at ext. 2580, sgallagh at ucar.edu
