Hello Everyone,

I'm happy to announce that Robert Houze will be the second 2006 Thompson
Lecturer. Dr. Houze is a professor in the Department of Atmospheric
Sciences at the University of Washington. He is renowned for his work
in many aspects of mesoscale and microscale meteorology, a topic of
great interest to many in the NCAR community. He has published
approximately 200 research articles and a popular graduate textbook on
cloud dynamics.

The lectureship will take place at NCAR on October 31st and November
1st. For those unfamiliar with the Thompson Lectures, they provide a
unique opportunity for NCAR postdocs and graduate students to have
significant interactions with a prominent scientist. Included during
the two day event are roundtable discussions on career development and
current research, ample opportunities for individual interactions, and
two lectures open to the entire NCAR community. More information can be
found at the ASP website
(http://www.asp.ucar.edu/thompson/thompson_lecture.jsp).

Titles and abstracts for Prof. Houze's seminars and a schedule for his
visit will be available soon. For more information on his recent (and
not so recent) work, please visit his webpage
(http://www.atmos.washington.edu/%7Ehouze/RAHouzeWebsite/houze.html).

We also welcome the help of any postdocs who are interested in helping
with the planning of this or future Thompson Lectures.

Regards,
Tim VanReken
