Hi all-
Susan Foster brought this opportunity to my attention. Although it
is unlikely that UCAR
will acquire the equipment in the near future, those of you who are
interested in academic
positions may want to participate to learn more about this teaching
technique. Best regards.

>>>Been wanting to try "clickers" in your classroom? Register now
>>>for CSM's upcoming session of their popular course, "Using
>>>Classroom Communication Systems"! This will be the_ final_
>>>session for this school year. It's a great way to try this
>>>technology because you borrow everything you need and have lots of
>>>help as you learn to use it.
>>>
>>>*What is this technology? * Each student in your classroom has a
>>>hand-held wireless device, much like a remote control for the TV.
>>>They use this to transmit their responses to questions you pose.
>>>Instantly, all responses are recorded and you can project the
>>>distribution of answers, much like you see on "Who Wants to Be a
>>>Millionaire".
>>>
>>>*What equipment will I be borrowing?* A class set of 32 student
>>>remotes ("clickers"), a receiver, an LCD projector, a laptop
>>>computer, and all the cords and cables you need to hook it all
>>>together.
>>>
>>>*How can I use this in my classroom?* Colorado teachers have
>>>found many effective ways to use this technology in their

>>>when you can move on and when your students are still confused.
>>>The technology can also be used for review (including games),
>>>reinforcement, prediction, anonymous opinion polls/surveys,
>>>developing multiple-choice test-taking skills, guided
>>>inquiry/scaffolded questioning, instantly-graded testing, and
>>>many other applications.
>>>
>>>*Can I take this class even if I'm a techno-idiot? * Yes, as long
>>>as you have a working familiarity with computers, you'll do fine.
>>>*What about when the class is over, can I ever again use what I
>>>learn? * Completion of the class is like a library card: you can
>>>keep checking out the equipment as many times as you like.
>>>
>>>*When is the class? * The class meets at Colorado School of Mines
>>>on February 25 (8 AM-4 PM) and April 1 (8 AM-noon). Tuition is
>>>$125. Participants receive 1 semester credit for recertification.
>>>*Is this just for science teachers? * No, the course is open to
>>>teachers of all subjects and grade levels.
>>>
>>>*How do I register?* Please see the attached flyer for details.
