Dear colleagues,

Please accept our apologies if your receive multiple copies of this
email!

We would like to draw your attention to a session dedicated to

"Earth System Modeling: Strategies and Software" (ESSI5)

at the European Geosciences Union General Assembly, Vienna, Austria,
3 - 8 April 2011.

         http://meetings.copernicus.org/egu2011/

Deadline for submitting abstracts: 10 January 2011

In order to reflect the growing need for discussing IT science and its
contributions to geoscience "Earth & Space Science Informatics" (ESSI)
is recognized as an independent division of the EGU General Assembly,
on an equal level with the "traditional" divisions and symmetrical to
the ESSI session at the AGU Meetings.

Session ESSI5 is dedicated to the development and use of infrastructure
software for modelling the Earth system with coupled numerical models
of full complexity, and aims at bridging the gap between IT solutions
in the high performance computing area and Earth System Science.
Contributions to this session may address the usefulness of
coupling infrastructure and data management, strategies and tools for
pre- and post-processing, and software solutions and strategies to
support coupled regional and global models. Furthermore our focus is
on technically oriented presentations discussing IO, parallelisation,
and algorithmic work addressing the needs of Earth system
modelling. Other contributions dealing with more general aspects of
Earth system modelling are as welcome and heartily invited.

We are looking forward to receive your contribution. We trust that you will
use this opportunity in order to achieve better visibility of IT oriented
work in the geoscience community.

Please feel free to contact one of us if you have additional
questions, or input. Thank you very much for your interest!

We wish you a pleasant Holiday Season and a successful 2011!
