Thanks to everyone who participated and gave us early feedback on our efforts to date. Below are the specific comments and issues captured. I would also like to take a second and thank Balaji and Serguei for the time they spent with us developing the CMIP5 instance that was used in this demonstration. It facilitated much needed discussion about how CMIP5 instances will appear in the display. <br><br><br>*Properties:*<div><br>1) A discussion ensued about the use of Realm and Discipline in the display. In the ontology, Realm is the physical domain of a model (e.g. atmosphere, ocean, land, ice) while Discipline is a topic used to describe a component or simulation (e.g. climate, carbon cycle, weather prediction). The ESG interface allows users to search on Discipline. Allyn and Eric reported that how these terms are being used in questionnaire and the CIM differs. Eric suggested that some consensus by Metafor is needed for these terms to avoid confusion. Allyn will initiate an email thread on this topic.<br><br>2) Everyone agreed to keep the simulation dates as full dates with hours.<br><br>3) We will move Calendar to the Basic Properties tab.<br><br>4) Sylvia indicated that some groups, like CCSM, plan to create an alias for their email contacts (e.g. <a href="mailto:ccsm_cmip5@ucar.edu">ccsm_cmip5@ucar.edu</a> <<a href="mailto:ccsm_cmip5@ucar.edu">mailto:ccsm_cmip5@ucar.edu</a>>). Cecelia suggested that the questionnaire explicitly warn people that the contact emails they list will be displayed on a public website.<br><br>5) People liked that they could search for terms on the All Properties tab using their browser.<br><br>*Definitions:*</div><div><br>1) Everyone liked the pop up definitions. The participants liked that they would not result in accidental rollovers and thought they were clear and unobtrusive.<br><br>2) The definition icon was a question mark but after feedback Curator changed it to an "i". Eric mentioned he thought the icons merely looked like bullets and suggested a string somewhere on the page to tell people to click on the icon for more information. <br>3) Everyone agreed that all terms should have i's with definitions in the display no matter how simple the term. </div><div><br>*Components:*<br><br>1) Several people commented that they want to be able to get back to the root of the component tree from any child component and that it would be nice to see the entire component tree. Several possible options were suggested for this:<br><br> a) A breadcrumb trail that lists the components above the current component all the way to the root.<br> b) A quick link back to the root<br> c) Display of the full tree somewhere on the page; being able to see the component tree without having to go to a component tab first.<br><br>*Tabs: *<br><br>1) The new nested sub-tabs were presented. Everyone liked the idea. Sylvia asked if anything else should be done with their format. Eric mentioned having them be more seamless. This suggestion jibes with previous suggestions and is already listed as a requirement. <br><br>*Grid:*<br><br>1) Some asked again if the actual gridspec files will be linked on the grid tab. Sylvia indicated that this is planned. This item is also a carry over from the previous demonstration. </div><div><br>*CMIP3 Instances:*<br><br>1) Eric asked if the CMIP3 instances planned for the Oct release were going to be all instances (e.g. those at NCAR and those at PCMDI). Luca responded that for the Oct release the portal will only contain the CCSM instances that are local to NCAR. Eric made a follow on comment that it would be nice to have them all eventually. Luca responded saying someone at PCDMI would need to get involved in harvesting their system and wanted to know if someone at Metafor had already done this.
