This Ph.D. position focuses on high-resolution climate analysis for the Gulf coast using the Community Earth System Modeling version 2 Large Ensemble data (http://www.cesm.ucar.edu/projects/community-projects/LENS2/). Specifically, the student will downscale the climate data for watershed and coastal modeling applications. The student will also investigate the effects of downscaling on hurricane projections and heavy precipitation events in the Gulf coast. Prospective candidates should be highly motivated and have a strong background in climate modeling, hydrology, and related field. Experience in working with the CESM model is a plus. Knowledge and experience in Unix/Linux environment is highly desirable. Interested candidates should email a cover letter stating their research interests, CV, unofficial university transcripts, TOEFL/GRE scores (if applicable), and the names and contact information of three references to Dr. Sanjiv Kumar at theCWSlab@auburn.edu. The expected start date for the position is August 2020. The application will be reviewed on a rolling basis until a suitable candidate is found.
