Qualifications and Experience<br>
<br>
The successful candidate should possess a PhD in a relevant aspect
of Seismology or Geophysics.<br>
<br>
Candidates must also have experience in:<br>
• The application of seismic and other techniques for monitoring
active volcanoes<br>
• A leadership role and supervision of postgraduate students in
related disciplines<br>
<br>
Candidates with the following will have an advantage:<br>
• Postgraduate degree (e.g. MPhil) or equivalent in
Seismology/Geophysics<br>
• Observatory-type experience working with tectonic and/or
volcanic seismicity in a regional setting<br>
• Practical experience with Python, Earthworm, Seisan and
Seiscomp<br>
• Experience in the operation of modern telemetered digital
seismograph networks for the detection and assessment of regional
earthquakes<br>
<br>
A BSc in Earth Science or Geophysics will be considered an asset. <br>
<br>
<br>
<br>
Special Responsibilities<br>
<br>
• Working with a team of technicians, earth scientists and
engineers to provide real-time earthquake and volcanic surveillance
in the Eastern Caribbean<br>
• Developing a research program, in collaboration with other
staff members<br>
• Maintaining the regional, instrumental, earthquake catalogue
ensuring its completeness going<br>
forward and backward in time<br>
• Interpreting seismic data and reporting to the SRC Director
regularly<br>
• Playing a lead role in the operations, maintenance and further
development of seismological data acquisition and processing tools <br>
• Working with other regional risk reduction stakeholders to
strengthen capacity building for the production and application of
earthquake and volcanic hazard/risk assessment tools in a more
consistent manner<br>

Personal Attributes<br>
<br>
The Centre places high priority on individuals of integrity who can
work well in a team and student friendly environment. Candidates
should also possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A
good command of both oral and written English is essential.
Candidates must also:<br>
• Be competent in interpreting and manipulating earthquake data,
in all its forms <br>
• Be competent in computer programming and software used in
seismology<br>
• Be able to communicate science to non-scientists, with
diplomacy and sensitivity, across the entire social spectrum and to
government officials<br>
• Have knowledge of computer programming and software development
which would be highly beneficial<br>
• Have demonstrable presentation and communication skills,
particularly conveying complex ideas to a range of audiences<br>
• Be in possession of valid driver’s permit, or willing to
acquire one rapidly<br>
