MSc applicants will also be considered. Our group’s research focuses on the role of microorganisms in modern geochemical cycles, and how they shape our understanding of past and future environments on Earth and beyond. More information can be found at our
group website here: </span><a href="https://www.geobio.rocks/" style="font-size:12pt;color:blue"><span style="font-family:"Century Schoolbook",serif">https://www.geobio.rocks/</span></a><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"Century Schoolbook",serif">.
Research areas for student projects include two that are fully-grant funded (NSF and Simons Foundation), alongside other opportunities. These include: (i) determining how the membranes of extremophilic Archaea respond to environmental stress; (ii) the hydrogen
isotope record(s) of Archaea; and (iii) methane formation by traditional and non-traditional microbial sources. While some projects are funding tied, PhD students will also propose and develop their own projects in the broad theme of geomicrobiology and microbial
geochemistry.</span></p>

fields, with non-traditional backgrounds, and/or with a demonstrated interest in efforts to improve inclusion and diversity in STEM are especially encouraged to apply. Students in the Microbial Geochemistry Group work in the Steele and Fairchild Hall buildings,
both with power assisted doors for accessibility. Leavitt is the faculty director of the Dartmouth ManyMentors STEM mentoring network, and encourages all group members to participate.</span></p>
