The Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Hong Kong is seeking<br>
a highly motivated and enthusiastic PhD student to join the research group<br>
of Dr. Nicole Khan (<a href="http://www.sealevelchangelab.com" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">www.sealevelchangelab.com</a>). The research group uses<br>
sedimentary, microfossil and geochemical indicators to produce and<br>
synthesize records of present and past sea levels, storms, and floods, and<br>
their extent of geological and ecological impacts. These records provide<br>
means to assess future risk, reveal the spatial and temporal variability of<br>
coastal inundation and decipher the relationship of these events to global<br>
climatic changes.<br>
<br>
Potential research topics include (but are not limited to): 1) Producing<br>
new, high-resolution records of relative sea-level change from tropical,<br>
sub-tropical, and temperature locations using microfossil (e.g.,<br>
foraminifera, diatoms, pollen), geochemical (e.g., stable carbon isotopes),<br>
or novel (e.g., DNA signatures) proxies; 2) Developing sea-level databases<br>
spanning the Last Glacial Maximum to present to reveal spatio-temporal<br>
patterns and mechanisms of past relative sea-level change, particularly on<br>
Chinese, Australian, African, and Scandinavian coastlines; and 3) Deciphering<br>
mechanisms of paleoenvironmental change and carbon storage in coastal<br>
settings.<br>

National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral Research Scholar to support data analysis of aerosol and cloud measurements in the atmosphere. The primary focus of this work is to analyze data from NASA?s satellites and balloon field missions to characterize the optical and physical properties of aerosols and clouds. The overall objective is to better understand how pollution in Asia can affect cloud distributions during the Monsoon. This work supports two separate but related NASA funded awards.<br>

The Department of Biological Sciences at Lindenwood University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month faculty position as an assistant/associate professor of Evolutionary Biology starting August 2020. The successful applicant will teach an upper-level evolution class, sections in our introductory sequence for majors, and anatomy and physiology. They will also be expected to develop upper-level elective courses encompassing the applicant's specialty.<br>
Candidates should have a Ph.D., with peer-reviewed publications in their field. Competitive applicants will have teaching experience and/or postdoctoral training. Research is encouraged, but the applicant must be able to develop a research program that will involve undergraduates.<br>
Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators<br>

Teaching and Learning<br>
* Develop and teach 24 credit hours (9-month contract) of undergraduate and/or graduate courses or the equivalent as authorized by the dean for the purpose of developing and demonstrating Lindenwood's Institutional Learning Outcomes, including broad, integrative, and specialized knowledge, essential habits of mind, communicative fluency, and effective problem-solving skills.<br>
* Conduct all classes in accordance with an established, current, and compliant course syllabus, text(s), and/or related instructional material(s), submitted in accordance with established University guidelines.<br>
* Supervise laboratories, independent studies, tutorials, and off-campus learning such as study abroad, practicums, and internships.<br>
* Ensure accessibility, copyright, and authentication compliance (online and hybrid courses)<br>
* Ensure compliance with Canvas minimum use standards (on-campus courses).<br>
* Participate in textbook adoption and review as appropriate. Use all materials required for a course sufficiently to justify student expense.<br>
* Respond to student questions, inquiries, etc. within 24 business hours.<br>
* Maintain student attendance, grade, and discipline records as required by the University and/or School.<br>
2. Service<br>
* Serve as academic advisor and mentor to students and maintain accurate files on each advisee<br>
* Refer students, when appropriate, to specialized University services<br>
* Utilize the appropriate University policies and procedures to resolve and document student complaints, concerns, and problems.<br>
* Resident full-time faculty teaching a full-time load are expected to post and keep eight office hours per week.<br>
* Respond to student concerns, questions, and requests for assistance within 24 hours, excluding Saturdays and Sundays and official University holidays and breaks.<br>
* Participate in shared governance annually, assuming positions of increased responsibility.<br>
* Provide mentorship and leadership within the school.<br>
* Participate in and develop efforts to recruit and retain students.<br>
* Complete administrative tasks as requested by the dean, including but not limited to work associated with student attendance and grades, course schedules, academic catalogs, assessment, program reviews, recruiting, retention, performance evaluation, and accreditations.<br>
* Exhibit interpersonal effectiveness with and respect for students, colleagues, and administrators by acting as a team player and coordinating work with colleagues.<br>
* Maintain a high level of professional ethics.<br>

Required Qualifications<br>
Qualifications required for effective job performance. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.<br>
* Ph.D. in Evolutionary Biology or related field<br>
* Peer-reviewed publications in the field<br>
* Post-doctoral research preferred<br>
* Demonstrable record of successful college-level teaching experience beyond that of teaching assistant<br>

Postdoctoral Appointee - Computational Geophysics and Analysis<br>

What Your Job Will Be Like<br>

We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Postdoctoral Appointee with interest and experience in computational geophysics and analysis. Seismic analysis efforts at Sandia have supported various national-security objectives, ranging from border security/surveillance, ground-based nuclear treaty verification, natural resource characterization, waste disposal monitoring, climate change, and site geologic characterization. You would need to have demonstrated experience in topics such as signal processing, advanced modeling and tomography.<br>
<br>
Longer term, you will need to provide your expertise to Sandia mission area programs and ultimately help execute novel, high-impact, cross-disciplinary team efforts that advance the state of the art. You will work to increase both Sandia's and your own impact and standing in these programs by producing high-quality results, which can include limited-distribution deliverables, publications in peer-reviewed journals, patents, conference presentations, reports, etc., depending on sponsor requirements. We will rely on you to perform your work according to Sandia values, which include serving national needs, delivering with excellence, respect for others, teaming, and scientific integrity.<br>

On any given day, you may be called on to:<br>
* Support existing geophysics department R&D efforts as a means of maintaining and/or growing their technical diversity and expertise;<br>
* Run existing modeling codes and interpreting the results;<br>
* Develop new codes to advance the state of the art in multiple areas such as crustal tomography;<br>
* Work with large data sets to prepare for processing;<br>
* Publish reports, presentations and peer-reviewed scientific journal articles;<br>
* Perform the work according to Sandia values, which include serving national needs, delivering with excellence, respect for others, teaming, and scientific integrity.<br>
Qualifications We Require<br>
* Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a PhD in Mathematics, Physics, Earth Sciences, Computer Science, or a related discipline;<br>
* Proven success in publishing in the peer-reviewed literature;<br>
* Proven experience in advanced signal processing and modeling;<br>
* Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.<br>
Qualifications We Desire<br>
* Experience in geophysical and numerical theory;<br>
* Experience in uncertainty quantification;<br>
* Experience in 3-D geophysical simulation and inversion (including full waveform and non-linear/shock simulation and classical ray-based tomography and full waveform/source inversion);<br>
* Comfortable working with large datasets;<br>
* Comfortable with system administration techniques;<br>
* Knowledge/experience in C/C++/Python/Java/Fortran or other programming language.<br>
Position Information<br>

This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD needs to have been conferred within five years prior to employment.<br>

Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.<br>
