<div><b>Position Summary</b></div>
<div>This position is located in the Geosciences and Environmental Change Science Center (GECSC) in the Southwest Region of the United States Geological Survey. The GECSC conducts multi-purpose geologic mapping and topical environmental and climate change-related
studies to address scientific issues concerning geologic, climatic, and environmental changes. <b><i>The primary purposes of this position are to (1) manage field and laboratory operations of the Earth Systems Biogeochemistry (ESB) Laboratory and (2) conduct
place-based data investigations including monitoring, experimentation, modeling, geostatistics and GIS analyses focused on understanding the linkages of soil and carbon cycling in soils and terrestrial ecosystems.</i></b> </div>

<div>The duties associated with this position encompass three distinct areas including fieldwork, laboratory work, and data analyses. The incumbent will be tasked with managing day-to-day operations of the ESB Laboratory, including oversight of the organization,
processing, and biogeochemical analyses of environmental samples. Other duties will include: (1) design and implementation of field or laboratory experiments, (2) management of laboratory standard operating procedures, data quality assurance routines, and
compliance with health and safety regulations, (3) semi-regular fieldwork requiring travel of up to 5-days per month, and (4) compilation, analysis, and interpretation of scientific data. </div>

<div>Candidates must have a strong background in biogeochemistry or comparable laboratory training/experience. They should be independent, organized, and detail oriented. Candidates that also have experience with numerical modeling techniques using software
such as R, Python, and Matlab and/or Geospatial Information Systems will be given preference.</div>
