Research Lab in the Department of
Geography at Simon Fraser University, led by Dr. Kirsten
Zickfeld, invites
applications for a postdoctoral position in coupled-climate
carbon cycle
modelling. Simon Fraser University is located in Metro
Vancouver, British
Columbia, Canada, a vibrant metropolitan area situated in a
spectacular natural
setting of ocean and mountains.</span></p>

style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">The successful
candidate will join a dynamic
group with expertise in Earth system modelling, climate dynamics
and climate-carbon
cycle interactions on decadal to centennial timescales. The
focus of the
research will be in one of the following areas: 1) Reversibility
of climate
changes in “overshoot” scenarios, i.e. scenarios that
temporarily exceed a given
temperature limit, 2) Earth system response to artificial
removal of carbon
dioxide from the atmosphere, 3) Carbon budgets consistent with
limiting warming
to </span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"
lang="EN-US">the temperature limits set by the Paris Agreement
(1.5</span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"
lang="EN-US">°</span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family:
Arial;" lang="EN-US">C and 2</span><span style="font-size: 10pt;
font-family: Arial;" lang="EN-US">°</span><span
style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;" lang="EN-US">C
warming above
pre-industrial). </span><span style="font-size: 10pt;
font-family: Arial;">Research
questions will be addressed using an Earth System Modelling
framework, e.g. the
UVic Earth System Climate Model run in house, and/or climate
model archives
such as the Climate Modelling Intercomparison Project Phase 6
(CMIP6). </span></p>
